191: Jenny Boyd

You may know her as the muse who inspired Donovan’s “Jennifer Juniper”; maybe you know her as Pattie Boyd’s sister who went to Rishikesh with The Beatles. She may be known to some as the one-time flat-mate of Magic Alex or the two-time wife of Mick Fleetwood, but above all, she was a perceptive observer with a ringside seat at some of the most momentous events in 60s youth culture; wise beyond her years but in tune with the zeitgeist as it shifted around her.

Meet (Dr.) Jenny Boyd, author of the newly-published Jennifer Juniper: A Journey Beyond The Muse. She also authored Musicians In Tune, republished and expanded as It’s Not Only Rock ‘n’ Roll: Iconic Musicians Reveal The Source of Their Creativity; a fascinating exploration into the creative process with some of her best friends.

In this conversation, we discuss her life and times, along with a lots of familiar personas in her circle, as well as the nature of creativity.

  1. My dissertation was similar to Dr. Boyd’s. I interviewed a group of psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapists to see how spirituality and moral values (e.g., prudence, courage, temperance) informed the work they did in the consulting room.

Thank you for having her on your program.

    Cheers,
    Rick

  3. By the way, I now work for Warriors Heart, an addiction/behavioral health treatment center in Texas that is designed for military-related and first-responders. Dr. Boyd’s journey is a fascinating one.

  5. Thank you Robert for another fabulous episode. Always interesting, always insightful, always of the highest quality. How wonderful to hear first hand from the people who were actually there! I think you bring out the best from your guests as well. I have loved the Beatles and have been learning about them since I was 7 years old. Your show never fails to surprise and inform me.
What a fascinating and lovely guest Dr Boyd is ! I look forward to reading her books.

  7. Although she gently declined being called Dr. Boyd, through the course of the interview I could not help but think of her as indeed being Dr. Boyd. I have heard that addiction counseling and therapy is an extraordinarily difficult field and she is worthy of our great respect for her efforts.

Excellent insights into the burdens of creativity that some individuals seem to bear.
