160: The Redhead on the Roof

You know him as the human music stand kneeling before John Lennon for “Dig A Pony” during the rooftop session of January 1969. But Kevin Harrington was much more than that: coming into The Beatles’ orbit beginning in January 1966 as an office boy at NEMS; an employee of the Saville Theatre the following year, and lastly, a roadie/gofer at Apple from 1968 on, setting up their musical gear for recording sessions (and hanging out otherwise).

Kevin’s stories are entertaining and insightful: The Beatles as seen up-close from day-to-day through the eyes of a teenager.

“What a Beatle wants, a Beatle gets!”

  1. Great interview! Before listening, I would have thought that being on the rooftop with the Beatles would have to be the coolest thing that ever happened to him. But that was before I heard that Lulu fell asleep on his shoulder one night in the back of a car. Butterflies in stomach, and I’m not sure I’ll be thinking of anything else for the rest of the day. Sigh 🙂

  2. That was a good one and a lot of fun. Some of that is priceless. What a neat job to have. I’ll be checking out Kevin’s book. Bring Kevin back sometime. Thanks, Robert and Kevin.

  3. Thanks Robert for bringing these wonderful people and their fab stories to our world, another great show.Something that sounds such an amazing job to us, was just another day at the Office for Kevin. Looking back now, and talking with you, sounds like it brought back some fantastic memories for him. You could hear it in Kevin’s voice as he recalled his story how much enjoyment he was having talking with you

  4. Hi Robert, just re-visiting this amazing episode and so interesting how much more relevant is is now!!! Have you thought about revisiting this? Kevin comes across so matter of fact about it all, he must have been so shocked when he saw Get Back
