Back in 2000, Chip Madinger and Mark Easter produced an exhaustive study of every extant recording of the solo Beatles, up to that very year: studio sessions, live concerts and broadcasts. Eight Arms To Hold You was a one-of-a-kind detailed examination of what the four ex-Beatles did musically, when and with whom. The book went out of print, but the good news is, it’s back (in PDF form) and updated with another 20,000 words, further detailing the ground covered (though it still ends at 2000).
I talked with Mark and Chip about the lay of the land, unreleased recording-wise; what else is out there and what we can make of what we have been given.

Brilliant podcast as always.
This and your previous show with Doug Sulpy were very good ideas, following up on excellent, comprehensive discographical-type books. My two favorite references in the original 8 ARMS were specifically praising “I Know (I Know),” (always my favorite MIND GAMES track, but never a focus of other works, as they correctly point out), and opining that George’s solo catalog features a higher level of consistency than P, P,, or R’s. If possible, perhaps you can have similar shows with John C. Winn and/or Richie Unterberger, both of whose works I find invaluable, but who seem similarly “off the grid” of common Beatles authors.
You should definitely interview Richie. He has an amazing breadth of knowledge.
What a fantastic show once again. I loved the Ringo demo at the end, I must know the name of that song. Also the George and Paul demos were marvelous.

The most exciting thing about the re-issue of “Rock ‘n Roll Circus” is news that a Dirty Mac rehearsal of ‘Revolution’ is to be included!!
Wow- I had to endure Another Day in its entirety… I need a drink!
Another feast for Beatle’s fans.. thank you. I laughed out loud at “come together” patched over John’s snarly ad lib in the “How do you sleep?” recording! It was perfect!
Hi Robert, thanks for another great show. it will be interesting to see if we do get any more early takes from the Harrison estate. i certainly hope so, although it has been awhile since volume one was released. Also the Dark Horse tour would be good to see, i know George was not at his best for that tour,it is still an important part of his journey.
