32: Beatles’ Turkeys

SATB 32 rev

In this special holiday week edition of Something About The Beatles, Richard and Robert offer up their takes on The Beatles’ “turkeys” – missteps, bad ideas or otherwise lesser efforts. (Here’s a clue: it’s their shortest episode yet!)

Christmas is coming and the Something About The Beatles 2016 calendar is here

ATTENTION CHICAGO AREA SATB LISTENERS: With your support, we may be able to make possible something we can all be thankful for: Something About The Beatles on terrestrial radio (and regularly scheduled besides…).

MeTV FM is a fabulous new radio station, playing loads of forgotten hits from back in the day. They’re also very Beatle-centric – that makes them the perfect radio home for Something About The Beatles. We have been advertising on them, but what would be fantastic is if we could get all of you to show your interest in such a venture.

Do you want to hear Something About The Beatles weekly, on the radio? Then shoot them an email – let them know that you love the show, and that you appreciate the sponsorship of Rode Brothers Fine Wood Flooring.

That’s the kind of support that makes things happen – can we count on you?

Thanks!

Spitting image series 2 episode 1 “McCartney Eats Out” – Paul McCartney is sitting at a table in a restaurant. The waiter brings him a film canister with “Give my regards to Broad Street” written on the top and says ‘Here’s your Turkey Sir’ McCartney holds his head in his hands.

  2. Hey Guys,

Another fun episode. I just realized that this was the show Robert left Things We Said Today for.(I believe you only co hosted one show)But I finally caught up on the episodes and I guess the only thing I don’t care for is Richards constant dislike for McCartney’s solo career but that ok I know it’s not for everyone! As for Turkey’s there’s not much for me either, One for me would be letting George Martin have side two of the Yellow Submarine LP. As for the songs, I Me Mine, Boys, Baby You’re A Rich Man and Hello Goodbye are just a few Turkey’s IMO. Keep up the good work guys!

  3. Drive My Car in the closing montage? When did that become a turkey? As for If You’ve Got Trouble, it’s not that bad at all. Don’t get the dislike for that one.

      1. Not a fave of mine but not a turkey and Paul still thinks enough of the song that it has been a concert opener for him on more than one occasion in the past 23 years!

  4. I think what is amazing in nearly a 55 year group and solo career, the “Beatles” brand has had very few turkeys. I always feel even on maligned albums like “Ringo the 4th” (“Gave It All Up”) and “Sometime in NYV” (“New York City” some gems are always held within to be discovered or rediscovered. The one thing the “Pure McCartney” box set did is even for die-hards a chance to rediscover and listen again to some lost Paul classics in the waiting!

  5. No one mentions ‘Blue Jay Way ‘..big turkey…
I love George but this has to be one of the worst dirges he ever wrote..he was to bounce back soon afterwards but this track is unlistenable ..and only a northern song ?
