245: Catch and Kill – Controlling The Narrative with Robert Rosen

Returning guest Robert Rosen (Nowhere Man) penned an essay last year discussing a phenomenon called “catch-and-kill,” wherein the powerful who wish to keep unflattering stories from reaching the public exert pressure and influence to keep media companies from publishing them. In the instances he wrote about, a pair of book projects detailing life at the Dakota during John Lennon’s final five years were suppressed, for no apparent reason beyond the estate wishing to keep any variance from the narrative they have been controlling for decades to be challenged in any way. This led to a discussion on the why and the how these stories are being kept hidden, despite the legitimacy of the narrators.

  1. Very difficult to listen to Robert Rosen speak about radical activists “The Weatherman” in such poor context. One would expect an author to articulate this history much better. His story and involvement with Frederic Seaman also prompts more questions than answers in this interview. Rosen states he went on vacation and found his apt broken into. He fails include that Frederic Seaman sent him “out of town. This he shard in 2002 to a court of law at Seaman’s copyright infringement trial.

Robert should address the book En Casa de John Lennon by the late Rosaura Lopez, the Lennon’s cleaning lady, from Spain.

  3. I read the playboy story The Betrayal of John Lennon … I fell for it, due to how detailed it was and vivid. The devil tries to trick you this way. Now I hear the other side. Its all so confusing, but Rosen sounds credible to me. Great episode! Thanks, Roberts!
